[167] Red Truck Pottery.

06/30/2010

Dear World, meet Mr. Bill the Potter. He has been making pottery for 37 years. He named his company “Red Truck Pottery“, because the first car he had after college was a red truck, and that’s what got him up to Chestertown, NY, (where his studio is) so he thought it would be a fitting name for his company. He’s a really cool guy. He makes all his own glazes and some really beautiful pottery. And to top it all off, his store is outdoors. So cool :)

Nice to meet Mr Bill the Potter. I like knowing the history behind the business name. Real nice photos, good basis for a brochure or web page.

Bill Knoble died last week of a heart attack at 68. I’m friends with his daughter, Naomi. I went searching for photos of his work and studio so I could get to know him a little better, your blog had the best. Thanks. Here’s a link to the North Country Radio story on his life: http://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/story/22869/20130930/remembering-potter-farmer-bill-knoble.

Oh no! How sad. He was an amazing artist! Thanks for sharing the link and I wish you and your friend comfort during this time.

I have dozens of pieces of pottery from Red Truck. When we owned a condo at nearby Green Mansions I began to buy pieces on every trip there. Now all my 20 place settings are in our ranch house in Texas. I always loved the fact that the glaze on the underside was every bit as pretty as that on the upper side.
